I've always viewed this verse as being in harmony with the thief in the night verse, or even the verse about as in the days of Noah. When they say peace and security, the writer was talking about a certain outlook in life. Eating and drinking as in Noah's day, not taking any note, getting married as if everything is all hunky dory. Peter's letter mocking those saying everything is just as the days of our forefathers comes to mind too.

A Different View of "Peace and Security"
by Bobcat insince the wt this week has the prediction of a "peace and security" event, i thought i would include a comment from the new american commentary (nac, d. michael martin, pp.159-60) on 1 thessalonians 5:2, 3.. here is the wt's position, according to this week's wt study (sep 2012 study edition, pp.3 4):.
1 th 5:2, 3 is a "future development.".
it happens "just before that day of jehovah.".

Need some help!!!!! ***URGENT***
by sinis inmy wifes mother recently passed away, and it has devastated my wife.
the family, who are not witnesses, but out of respect for the deceased, and who was a jw, had the ceremony at the kingdum hell, which almost made me throw up... last time i ever step foot in that place.
i felt like a vampire on the threshold of a church, as i looked into the interior hall feeling my skin burn and start to smoke... anyways, as i have posted on here before a friend of my wife, has in the past, sent her (my wife) emails about going back to the kingdumb hell.

Shouldnt you speak to your wife first before telling the friend to stop emailing her? I understand the concern, but she should have some say in matter too, right?

Grieving=Guilt in JW World
by nuthouse escapee ini lost both of my parents many years ago while in the organization.
i can remember the scripture being used that says we do not grieve on as the rest do.
(been so long i can't remember where it is).

I can see that verse getting misconstrued at times, mainly by the fanatic types. The verse says that we dont grieve like the rest of mankind, but it doesnt say we dont grieve at all. The rest of that verse and the verses that follow put it in perspective. We grieve, but we're not ignorant of the state of those we've lost in death. We're the opposite of the non-believers who have no hope. Rather we look foward to Jesus coming back and raising the dead.
Me personally, I always dug that versse and the WT view on death itself. I believe they encourage a positive view on death. Which is weird because they have a perverted view towards life. I've lost close friends and will probably lose some close family in the very near future as my folks and other relatives are up in age, and I find this verse encouraging.
As far as other JWs greiving, one of last memorials we had after an older brother died, the speaker got choked up a few times in front of the significant amount of worldly family in attendance. I dont recall ever being discouraged from grieving. However, I can definately see some misconstruing the verse in question. So many JWs are so concerned with giving a witness that they cant remember what natural emotional reactions are.

A stunning conisderation of injustice: the FALL of MAN and his Salvation
by Terry inin certain instances, in society's courts of law, a false accusation takes place.
a wrong conviction happens and only a heroic effort on the part of family, friends and attorneys can save the wrongfully convicted person from penalty, imprisonment or death.. another possiblity might also occur:.
if you are wrongfully accused and convicted but saved by the very person who accused you--what then?

Glad to see you alive and kicking, Terry. Great thread, I dont believe anyone can refute what you posted without looking insane.

What if you could just walk away? No DF'ing or Shunning?
by QuestioningEverything inif i could tell my mom and other family jw's that i wasn't going back, didn't believe it and wanted to move on with my life without worrying about being df'd or shunned, i'd do it in a heartbeat.. but, that is not the case.
wonder how many the wtbs would lose if they changed their policy on this?
how many of you would have left sooner if there were 'no strings attached' to the wt?.

Theocratic Sedition
I forget who brought it up in an older thread, but they mentioned that if the shunning policy were rescinded, quite a few people who previously considered leaving might hang around because it would be a positive change. I'd love to simply walk away and get on with life but it's not plausible at this time. However if they were to rescind the shunning policy, I might consider hanging around as it would appear they're on the right path. Then they might really be able to say that they have love amongst themselves. As it stands now for many congregations they resemble white washed graves.

Divine intervention in finding Whitney's body? Really??
by undercover inhttp://www.katu.com/news/local/search-leader-whitney-heichels-sweater-first-clue-found-by-searchers-175893161.html.
new article in local media how the jw church played a crucial role in finding whitney heichel's body.
the true part is that the jw community does come together at times of crisis to help each other, no critique of that.

Divine intervention LOL. Like Sir82 mentioned, where was the divine intervention when the guy forced her to perform oral on him? Where was God when he shot her 4 times? Why didn't God cause a technical problem at the coffee shop she worked at so that her boss called her and told her not to come to work that day? Why didn't God cause her to oversleep that morning? Of all the aspects of this story to chalk up to divine intervention, the finding of her corpse? Ya gotta love it.
edit post: I know it's not limited to JWs, but religious types just look for anything to affirm their faith, no matter how ridiculous. Time and unforseen occurance on Monday, and on Tuesday Jehovah sent an angel to intervene.
